After you have played the on-line game "Catchment Detox" a few times, give me some feedback on how you went. What did you need to look out for to protect your Catchment? What did you need to do to prevent loss of productivity? How did you spend your funds?
What did you think of the game? What did you learn? Is this an effective tool to learn about catchment management?
My top score was around 349,000 - nowhere near the top 100! I found that you had to be really careful to manage your funds, and think ahead to where you wanted to place industry, agriculture and tourist developments. The first things I did was to remove water quality and salinity risks and replace them with native vegetation. Then I started to look at biodynamic options in agriculture (cattle, sheep and pigs). After that I could start investing in tourism and industry. There are a lot of factors to consider when managing a catchment!

I scored around 350,000 and i had a few resorts and alot of biodynamic pig, dairy and beef farms. And in the 40th turn i built heaps of forest so that they would be fully grown by the 47th and then i logged them all and had a few left over.
Never mind Nathan1 The trick is to balance social (resorts), economic (biodynamic pig farms) and environmental (national parks) interests. if you look at the winner's catchment profile, there is only these three activi5ies on it. Not very true to life!

i likey this gamey.
it is a good idea for young one if they wish to go to millionaire school. because you get rich in it and help the environment at the same time..
which is good for virtual mother earth.. i love her.
Nathan is a god at catchment detox. i think it must be related to his extreme intelligence, and his combover. it is lovely. The key to getting a high score is to have national parks on the river and biodynamic pigfarms and resorts on the plains.
